Clive Bates

Clive joined Grove Consultants in 2002 having held a number of testing positions in different industries. This experience led to roles in Test Management on key projects with NatWest Bank before moving on to the management of testing the supply chain systems for Sainsbury’s. Clive then joined a European focused consultancy company where he established the Testing Practice that served clients both in the UK, Holland and Germany. The focus of the work Clive has undertaken has been the introduction of Test Automation, developing and managing test teams and managing the testing process from multiple dependant projects to time critical applications.

Clive has undertaken a number of consultancy assignments at client sites to assess their existing test practices. This has included reporting on appropriate improvements and providing ongoing support during the implementation of recommended changes and facilitating at post testing reviews.

Clive has presented papers at leading testing conferences. These have included the Test Automation conference Washington DC, STARWest, STAREast and EuroStar. He has also participated in smaller specialist testing conferences in the UK, Sweden, Denmark and Holland. Clive has contributed articles to various magazines and journals including Better Software. Clive’s experience allows him to use practical examples to explain specific points during his training courses. He was described by one of his students as an “enter-trainer” bringing the subject of testing to life.

In 2006 Clive was on the program committee for the EuroStar conference held in Manchester. Clive was one of the founder members of the board that developed the original ISEB/ISTQB Foundation certificate and ISEB Practitioner certificate. He is now fully involved in the certification for the UK as Director of the UKTB accreditation panel.
